About this site
The AR Lens exists because accounts receivable is every organization's last line of defense - not just offense.
Protect the income. Find the problems. Find the solutions.
Sometimes that means looking at the business backwards.
The story starts at the end. The balance, the deduction, the late payment, the short payment - they're outcomes. Follow them backwards and they'll tell you about everything that happened before them.
Taking a few minutes to change YOUR lens could unlock the things you've been looking for.
Why I look at AR differently
I didn't start looking at AR differently because someone told me to. I started noticing patterns. The same deductions, same reasons, same dollar amounts at times - same stuff, different day. I got curious....
Why does this keep happening?
One question led to the next - is this balance because of a chargemaster issue, contractual ambiguity, a process issue, a customer issue - or a very real problem somewhere else in the business. So, I started following the WHY.
The WHY led me to the WHAT. I followed the information backwards, found the problem and did what I could to recover what was lost. Along the way, I've been told every version of "stay in your lane" out there. The funny thing about AR is that the information doesn't stay in its lane - so maybe we need to change the damn lane. That lane is what eventually led me here.
The AR Lens is a place to get curious about what the end of the revenue cycle can tell us about all the things that happened before it. Look for patterns. Ask better questions. Follow the trail. Find the WHY. And, most importantly, do something with what we learn.
Look again.
